How physiotherapy can help
A stroke can change how the body moves almost overnight. Common effects include weakness on one side, difficulty with balance, altered sensation, fatigue and trouble with coordination. Just as important are the emotional effects: many people feel anxious about moving, or frustrated at needing help with things that were once automatic.
Stroke rehabilitation is the process of relearning and rebuilding movement. Recovery is different for everyone, and while the greatest changes often happen in the early months, many people continue to make meaningful progress long after that with the right practice.
Home stroke rehabilitation allows that practice to happen in the setting where it matters, whether you have recently come home from hospital or finished NHS community rehabilitation and want to keep progressing.
Physiotherapy after stroke focuses on helping the brain and body work together again. Through repeated, meaningful practice of movements, strengthening and balance work, we aim to improve how you move and how much you can do for yourself.
We set goals with you, such as walking to the garden, managing the stairs or getting in and out of the shower, and build each session around making progress towards them.
